Finally an Update...

I'm so far behind. Please remember that I post chronologically, so be sure to scroll down and look at my latest posts.

We've been doing really well, staying busy.

Ryan - has GRADUATED!!!!!!!!!! We're so proud of him and SO excited that we'll be seeing him more. What an accomplishment!! Great job, honey!!! He continues to enjoy his job at Sorenson Communications and is doing well there. I'm sure he's not going to know what to do with all of his extra time now that he's done with school. We'll be having a HUGE celebration later in the month, so stay tuned for that.

I don't think anyone is more excited than Hailey about Ryan graduating. She is such a daddy's girl and LOVES her dad.

Aubrey - I'm so glad that Ryan is done with school. It has been really hard this last little while on all of us. I'm glad we'll be able to spend some more time together. We've been enjoying our yard this year, since we put in the fence its a lot more enjoyable to be outside. I've been busy planning two family reunions, the last of which is this coming weekend, so that has been keeping me busy.

Hailey - Hailey is a typical 3 year old girl. I talk to some of my friends who have 3 year old girls also, and am so relieved that I'm not the only one going through this. It seems to be something with the age. Sometimes she is as sweet as can be, and other times...I want to sell her to gypsies :). She is so fun though and comes up with some of the craziest things. The other night, she was outside playing with her cousin (another 3 year old girl) and I went out to see what they were doing. Hailey told me that they were "licking a hot dog tree that they planted for Cinderella." Wha??? She's very entertaining and we love her and wouldn't trade her for anything in the world.

Still Feels Good!!!

For Valentine's Day, my sweet husband got me tickets for one of my favorite bands - Rascal Flatts!!! I have wanted to see them for SO long!!

We had pretty fantastic seats and we weren't disappointed, well at least I wasn't. It was such a fun show - so LOUD, my ears were ringing by the end, and I could barely talk from screaming myself silly, but totally worth it. I was up dancing for the majority of the show, I think Ryan got a big kick out of watching me.

Jessica Simpson opened for them, and she was pretty good. We missed about 10 minutes of her set. She did quite a few of her pop songs as well as some of her country stuff, including "Come On Over", which I LOVE. AND, true to Jessica Simpson form, she totally messed up her own lyrics during the song. But at least she can make a joke about it :)

Rascal Flatts was so fun! They did a lot of their hit songs, which made it great for Ryan since he recognized so many of them. It was such a fun, FUN time....Thanks babe for the best Valentine's Day present!!!!

Their entrance was pretty heart stopping. During the break between Jessica and them, they were playing random music - Queen, Sister Sledge, etc. - all of a sudden the lights went down, and "All Summer Long" (Kid Rock) started playing. Everyone was screaming and it was pitch black. Then a huge flash went off, fireworks shot up and the curtain came down. When the smoke from the fireworks cleared, you could see this staircase come down with the band on the top. It was AWESOME.

This was during the big finale ("Bob that Head") They released all these red, white and blue balloons and confetti.

The final wave from lead singer, Gary LeVox.

We are the Luckiest...

Well since we didn't get our Christmas Card out this year (even though it was completely done - designed and printed out, we just needed envelopes) I figured its about time for an update.

We have been keeping really busy. Ryan just started his 5th semester of his MBA - only one more to go!!! He will be done with his classes in July, but will walk with the graduating class in April. Finally a light at the end of the tunnel!! We are so proud of all the hard work he has done to get this far! He is still really enjoying his job at Sorenson Communications. He hopefully won't have to travel much for training this year - last year he was gone at least once a month. When he's not busy with work and school, he can be found playing "climbing" with Hailey (which basically is just him sitting on the floor and letting her climb all over him), rolling balls with her, reading with her, helping around the house or watching TV with me. He's pretty much amazing - we think that we'll keep him.

Hailey keeps growing and growing, even though we keep telling her to stop. She is a giant chatterbox and talks from sun up to sun down - a trait that I'm told is my fault. She entertains herself most of the day with her active imagination. She has an imaginary friend named Steve. When I asked her if it was her Uncle Steve, she responded "No, just regular Steve." He apparently is a monkey with black ears. He has some puppies that chase her around all the time. Monkey Steve also fell off her bed and broke his leg, his arm, his toes, his forehead and his "backhead" (her words). She complains to me all the time that Steve "is not listening" to her. I just tell her "Welcome to my world, child." She can count to 12 (if the mood suits her), recite books (that we have read a gazillion times) and sing most of the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse songs ("The Sensational Six is ready to play, but some of our instruments are broken today..."). She loves to work out on the WiiFit with me. I have taken to getting her her own stool to stand on while I'm on the actual WiiFit, and that works really well for us. My favorite to watch her do are the Hula Hoop (seriously, ask her to do it for you the next time you see her...I promise you won't be disappointed) and the Penguin game - that one because she just laughs the whole time, and who gets sick of a child's laugh?? Not I. Especially hers. She's really into dancing around all the time, lately. Her favorite things to dance to are Mamma Mia and High School Musical (also, coincidentally her favorite movies, lately). Every time she sees something that she wants (a pink mailbox, a pink WiiFit, a pink airplane, a pink car - are we noticing a trend here??) she says "Mommy/Daddy I really want {insert crazy, random request here} for Christmas. Okay?" and then flashes us a HUGE grin. She is a very polite child and says please and thank you for just about everything, which makes me really happy. She loves to talk on the phone and anytime it rings I have to race her to answer it, or she won't give it up. She's HUGELY entertaining and I would highly recommend spending some time talking to her. She's a HOOT and LOVES to be the center of attention.

I have been keeping busy just being a mom and trying to be a good wife. I have been planning a bi-weekly menu that seems to help compulsion spending at the grocery store. Hailey and I also have a weekly baking date - Thursdays - that I really enjoy, though my hips and thighs aren't. Its fun to teach her something that I really love to do, but since I'm such a control freak and perfectionist I have a hard time letting loose a whole lot. I've been doing quite a bit of scrapbooking too, and have made a recent discovery of Photoshop templates, which I have an unhealthy obsession with. I download all the free templates that I can get my hands on. They really seem to help, though, when I haven't got any creativity flowing. Another thing I've been proud of the last few weeks is keeping my sink clear of dirty dishes. I have worked really hard at religiously emptying the dishwasher when its clean so I can always put dirty dishes right into the dishwasher. So far, I think I've done pretty darn good at it - what do you think, honey? Of course there are still areas of housekeeping that I fall short at, but I figure one step at a time, right? I've been trying to work out on the WiiFit quite a bit too, and I have to say I love it. Its so fun and different. I've unlocked all the balance games (though some of them are a little weird - like the one with the candle. What is that???) and quite a few of the exercises.

Well I think that about wraps it up. Hopefully this appeases some of you who have been bugging me (*cough* Shea *cough*) about an update. I'll try to do better for those of you who actually check this.

Our little getaway

Well thanks to Ryan's brother and his parents we were able to take a couple days to ourselves and get away to someplace I have always want to go -- Seattle.

We left Hailey with her grandparents and took off on a Friday morning. I am not a frequent flyer. I am terrified of heights, plus I get serious motion sickness. Serious. I do better when Ryan's there, but I still don't enjoy it. The worst part for me is usually the take off. I'm usually pretty okay once we get up in the air, and then I start to freak out a little again when we begin our descent, but usually the take off is the worst of it. The flight to Seattle was awful from start to finish. The pilot couldn't pick an altitude so we were constantly going up and down and up and down - not helpful with the motion sickness. By the time we landed...well lets just say it was not a promising start to our little vacation.

After we checked into our hotel, I had to rest and relax from the flight before we could do anything. We were able to make it to a session in the temple that night, though. The Seattle Temple is beautiful. Its laid out so much different than temples in Utah, though. I had to ask someone on each of the 4 floors where to go next. We had to go back the next morning to take pictures though, because our camera takes horrible night pictures.

On Saturday we spent the day in Downtown Seattle. We hit the Space Needle, Pikes Place Market and the Seattle Aquarium. The Space Needle was fun, a little on the expensive side. The gift shop was ridiculously expensive. Sea World gift shops were cheaper, and in my opinion that is a bigger tourist attraction than the Space Needle. I was surprised with myself with how calm I was being in the Observation Deck 520 feet in the air. I wouldn't go outside on the deck though, I wanted to stay close to the center of the thing, just in case it fell over. (I know. The fear is a bit irrational. I asked Ryan "What if it falls over while we are up there?" He said, "Then we'll be rich when we sue them." I reminded him that we would be dead. He said, "Then at least Hailey will be rich.")

From the Space Needle we walked around a little trying to find Fisher Plaza. (For those Grey's Anatomy fans - This building is where they film some of the outside shots of Seattle Grace. I know, I didn't really recognize it either...)

From there, Ryan convinced me that it wouldn't be that far to walk to Pikes Place Market. He told me that it was a mile from the Space Needle. So we set off. We walked....and walked...and walked...After about an hour (I'm exaggerating here...) I asked if we were close. I could see water, so I figured we had to be close. Ryan kept telling me that it was just a couple more blocks. I think he told me that for like 20 blocks. (I might be exaggerating here too...) We finally arrived and I was pooped. And hungry. So we wandered around looking for a place to eat. Ok, I grew up in a town that was more...granola than it was anything else. If I had seen Pikes Market Place first, I would have never thought of Durango as granola. Everyone that works down there look like they stepped out of a rasta video. Long dreadlocks, beanies, the whole nine yards. I wish I had taken a picture of the inside of the place we stopped to eat...and the guys that worked there. Totally cool, but totally granola. We wandered around Pikes Market for a little while, saw what apparently is a famous fish place, saw a lot of really unique stores, then headed to the Seattle Aquarium.

This is a picture in front of the famous fish market. There are some videos on YouTube of them tossing the fish back and forth. We watched them do it a couple times...pretty cool.

The Aquarium was pretty cool, but a little pricey. A must if you have kids with you, though. Much cooler than the aquarium here in Salt Lake. They had some really unique fish, though. And seals. I LOVE seals. We sat and watched the seals for probably 20 minutes.

This is one of the weirdest fish I have ever seen.

Ryan had really wanted to go to the Boeing factory while we were there, but that wasn't too interesting to me, so we compromised and went to the Museum of Flight. That appealed to me because in the flier it said we could tour Air Force One and a British Airways Concorde Jet. I was excited about those tours. Unfortunately, by the time we made it to the Museum, they had closed that portion. When we hesitated about purchasing a ticket to see the rest of the Museum, the nice man offered us "rain checks" so that we could come back and see the Concorde and Air Force One. The museum was actually, surprisingly interesting. I knew that Ryan would like it, and that's the only reason I agreed to go. Surprisingly, though, I found myself enjoying it as well. Ryan would tell me what he knew about the planes, and we (he mostly) would read other specifics about them. My favorite part was the exhibit on the planes from the World Wars. I was riveted by the stories of the crazy pilots.

Ryan in the cockpit of an SR-71 Blackbird. He thought it was awesome!

Sunday morning, we drove to the Snoqualmie Falls. They claim that the falls are higher than Niagra Falls. It was more overcast on Sunday than it was the other two days we were there. That combined with the mist from the falls made it nearly impossible to see the water at all. It was beautiful though; with the mist and the clouds - reminded me of Twilight, and made me want to go see it again!

From there, we went to use our "rain checks" at the Museum of Flight. I have to say I was a little disappointed with the so-called tours of the Concorde and Air Force One. I thought that maybe they would have a replica of the current Air Force One. Instead it was the actual Air Force One used by JFK and Eisenhower. (Walking through it though, did remind me of 24, and got us really excited to start up one of our favorite shows again!!) The Concorde was more disappointing. It was fun to read about how fast the jet could go (this jet was capable of traveling over two times the speed of sound! It could fly from London to New York and back to London in the time it took for a commercial airliner to fly one way.) But once we got in the plane...They have everything blocked off by plastic. While walking through, you couldn't walk facing straight ahead, we had to turn and walk sideways. It was claustrophobic. Oh well, at least we didn't have to pay for a second time to go see those planes.

The flight home was more pleasant than the flight to Seattle. The only problem was when we started our descent into Salt Lake, it sounded a little like the engines shut off, and felt like we were in a nose dive. I panicked a little.

It was so fun to have a trip with just Ryan. As much as I love my child, traveling is a much more pleasant experience without her. We didn't have to worry about tantrums, diaper changing, nap time. We could just go. And we got to reconnect. I didn't care so much for the gloom of Seattle, but I had such a great time just being the two of us, again. Love you, babe!

Christmas!

On Christmas Eve, Hailey and I decorated a gingerbread house together. This was Hailey's first experience with something like this, and I have to say that I think she enjoyed eating the candy more than she did putting it on the house! :) Oh well, that's a two year old for you!

We had Ryan's parents over for dinner on Christmas Eve. It was so nice to be with them for the holiday. After dinner, we talked about the Nativity story, and then opened up our Christmas jammies. This is a tradition we started on Hailey's first Christmas.

Then we drove around for a couple of hours to see Christmas lights. This was a tradition that I grew up with. We would always have a Christmas Eve program/get together at my grandparents house, then we'd drive around Farmington and see all the lights. When I was younger, Farmington used to have a Christmas light contest that was sponsered by the city. I'm not sure if they have it anymore, but the lights are still fun to look at. Its fun to see all the people that get so into the Clark Griswold-like spirit of decorating!

Christmas morning was so much fun with Hailey this year. Since she's well over 2, she totally "got" it. She loved ripping open her presents and helping other people rip theirs open too. It was so much more satisfying to see her eyes light up when she unwrapped the toy that she'd been wanting.

Hailey, very excited for Christmas morning...

Santa came!!

Hailey opening her stocking!

We were pretty spoiled this year. Hailey received a doll house (from Santa), an art easel, a hobby horse, a Cabbage Patch doll, a Mr. Potato Head, My Little Ponies, books, and clothes among other things. Her big gift this year though was a BIG GIRL BED and BEDDING. This was made possible by her wonderful grandparents!! My parents chipped in for the bed, and Ryan's parents bought her the bedding. She LOVES her new bed and the transition wasn't nearly as awful as I had feared. She has done very well, aside from the early mornings (earlier than I am used to), and shorter naps.

Ryan and I were spoiled as well! Ryan got me a WiiFit! I was so excited! I really didn't want to pay over retail for it, and I knew that Ryan, with as cheap as he is [ :) ] didn't want to either, so I just figured we would wait a while until the demand went down. I was SO surprised when I opened my present and there was a WiiFit sitting in my lap! Ryan got a new game for the Wii and a new MP3 player, which I'm pretty sure he likes. We also got tickets to the Jazz vs. the Cavs at the end of January and to WICKED!!! SOOOOOOOOO EXCITED for that show!!

WE had a wonderful Christmas and a fun New Year and hope you all did too!

What We've Been Up To...

Wow!! I can't believe that its already September...the summer flew by! We were busy all summer!! We wrapped up the summer with a fun filled Swiss Days. We had a great time with family, fun, and good food. Here's what's been going on with us lately:

[Ryan]
Ryan had the month of August off school, so we (and by we, I mean he) was busy almost every free minute on the yard. I think that it looks pretty awesome and we've gotten so many compliments on it. Ryan-you ROCK! In between work and yard work, he still seemed to manage spend a lot of quality time with us. I think August really spoiled us, as we are all having a really hard time adjusting to Ryan being back at school. I think that Hailey is having the hardest time, she sure loves her daddy, and we wouldn't have it any other way. He's still loving his job, and traveling more than we like for trainings and such. He's an all around awesome guy as always and we are so blessed to have him!

{Aubrey}
I've been keeping busy with a little of everything. We (Hailey and I) tried to do something fun and out of the house every week this summer. We took a few trips to Thanksgiving Point, the library and spent a lot of time playing with our friends in the neighborhood. I love being in Primary and love the ladies that I serve with. I learn so much from them all the time and am grateful for the opportunity to serve with them and serve the kids in our ward. As I said, its an adjustment to have Ryan back in school (3 nights a week!), but we'll do it, and its only for another year (sigh!). I've been trying to catch up on scrapbooking and other projects. (I'll be posting about some of the other things I've been doing on my other blog later on). I still love being a mom more than anything. Hailey keeps me on my toes and laughing all day long.

(hailey)
This kid is growing up too fast!! I look back at pictures from a year ago and can't believe how much she has grown up. She is so busy all the time. She plays pretend, dances, sings, laughs, colors, learns and loves every day. She talks non-stop and copies everything anyone else says/does. She's so smart too. We have a little puppy board book that we've read to her about a half a million times before bed, and the other night she started reciting it to me! I was in awe. She amazes us every day with the things she comes up with and does. Her favorite music to listen to lately is "Mamma Mia!" I took her to see the movie with a bunch of ladies from the neighborhood and I think she stole the show. She was really into the music and dancing in the isles. She was even dancing with the ladies that were sitting behind us. Everyone was cracking up! She came home singing "Mommy Mia! Here we go again!" She's so funny. She imitates stuff that she sees on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse too. She is learning her colors, her favorite is pink. She can count to 10 (for the most part, she still needs a little bit of help as she skips 4, 5, and 6 most times). She loves singing with me. We sing "The Wheels on the Bus" (Her favorite verse is "The mommies on the bus go sh, sh, sh!"), "Popcorn Popping", "Book of Mormon Stories", "You Are My Sunshine" (except I've changed the words to "You are my Hailey" and she loves that), and 5 Little Ducks. She is always "making food" in her kitchen and bringing it to me. She tells me "hot! hot! Let it cool off!" She feeds her Mickey Mouse and her monkey (her favorite toys lately-she takes that Monkey everywhere), pushes them around in her doll stroller, takes them for rides in her car and puts them down for a nap. She is at such a fun little age (most of the time) and we enjoy her little antics. We are so blessed that she is a part of our family.

Anyway, that's what we've been up to. I love being able to keep up with everyone through blogging!

Enjoy some random pictures of our crazy two year old!
